Henley Royal Regatta or Royal Ascot Races?

Both are lavish high society events with smart dress codes and a champagne popping atmosphere all rounded off with a trophy at the end. What it really boils down to is whether you’d prefer to spend your summers afternoon in the company of boats or horses.

The Henley Royal Regatta first began in 1839 and takes place at Henley-Upon-Thames in Oxfordshire. Its tranquil setting amongst Oxfordshire’s woodland and water meadows makes it an ideal way to while away an afternoon. The competition attracts internationally renowned crews and you may even get the chance to see some of our Olympic stars taking to the water. The competition operates on a knock-out basis with fraught contests being played out early on in the week providing great entertainment.

The jewel in the Henley crown is Temple Island which is situated a mile and a half down stream from the start point. This picturesque folly is available to hire but its exclusivity and the excellent vantage point it offers ensure its popularity so an early booking is essential. There is also a range of hospitable venues serving food and drink all along the course. The ultimate coup is to visit the Stewards Enclosure and rub shoulders with the competitors and indulge yourself at the exclusive champagne and oyster bar. But be warned, admittance is only available to Members and their guests.

The Royal Ascot experience is also an elegant affair with fine dining available as well as an impressible line up of outdoor bars and eateries. The potential to win big at the races creates an exciting atmosphere, there is no better feeling than jumping up and down with a field full of spectators, cheering your horse down to the finish line! And of course, Ascot offers you every opportunity to celebrate your win in style. You will also be in a very good company as the events attracts an A-list clientele as well as the Royal family.
