Limo Facial Expressions

Posted on Saturday 4 October 2008

Recently the results of a study were released where people were asked to assign facial expressions to a range of cars. They were to liken the front of the car to an angry expression, a happy expression, a tough expression and so on. Most people were able to choose an expression which they felt fit the car they were looking at, with of course the headlights most often being the eyes and the grille being the mouth.

The thing is, these people had probably never really thought about the fact that they were assigning human characteristics to cars, their own, their friends’ and cars they saw on the street, and probably judging whether they liked the car, and maybe even the people driving it, by the expression the car appeared to have on its ‘face’.

So is this one of the things which makes luxury cars appeal to us more than an ordinary car? Is it because the lines of a luxury car or limousine are so smooth and relaxed that we feel comfortable around these limousines as their facial expressions are friendly? What do you think?

Follow That Limo! - Celebrity Limousines

Posted on Saturday 4 October 2008

You often hear celebrities complaining about being followed by photographers and fans and how they are entitled to a private life. Well I’m not going to get into that debate here, but I am going to pose a similar question – if celebrities want to get around town without being noticed and not draw the attention of their fans and the media, why do they get around in such eye catching limousines?

A limousine can’t help but get noticed and a celebrity limousine even more so. Celebrities are not going to be riding in a limousine with any less than the best and latest accessories and the expense, style and class of a limousine is evident from the inside out. So while I’m not saying whether it is right to wrong that celebrities are dogged everywhere they go, they may like to keep in mind the fact that it could be their ride which drawing all that attention to them.

Limo Hire or For Rent?

Posted on Saturday 4 October 2008

Technically hire and rent do mean two different things, however in the limousine industry they are often used interchangeably. You pay a limousine company, they provide a limousine and chauffeur for the designated time and then they take it away when the time is up and this is just as often called ‘limo hire’ as it is called ‘renting a limo’.

Now I know which term I prefer and it also happens to be the same one which most reputable and professional limousine companies prefer too, as they refer to themselves as limo hire companies and their service is hiring out limousines. While I think the term hire is more suited to the stylish image of the limousine industry, the limousine hire companies actually prefer it for another reason too.

Hire and rent seem to mean the same thing but in some circumstances the terms of hire, compared to those of renting, can be very different. Therefore, make sure your contract protects your rights and your event, whether you hire or rent a limousine.

On Show or On Road

Posted on Saturday 4 October 2008

Limousines are coveted in pretty much every part of the world, and none more so than presidential limousines. Sometimes the president’s limousine is more famous that the man himself and the president is often remembered and associated with the limousine he was chauffeured in.

Because of the fame and the interest in presidential limousines these limos often find themselves in museums and on show. However, while part of the fun and enjoyment of a limousine is its outward appearance and the impression it has on people, more of the fun is actually had from enjoying the ride, the style and the luxury of the limousine from the inside.

So while presidential limousines, and the limousines of other famous people, are themselves famous and should be preserved, shouldn’t there also be a way to enjoy the ride of the limousine – which we have just said is the best part – rather than just looking at it from behind a velvet rope?

End of Bentley Arnage

Posted on Saturday 4 October 2008

The Bentley Arnage is not going to be produced any longer and while this is the end of an era in luxury limousines and manufacturing, it can also be seen as a good thing too. Does everyone remember the backlash which the new Rolls Royce Phantom received upon its release? The designers of this typically stylish limousine were criticised for changing too much of the tradition image of the Phantom to cater to more modern tastes.

So do you think it’s a good thing that the Arnage has been taken off the production line before it can suffer the same fate? Sure, products and services often get better as time passes because methods are perfected in production and styling techniques, but a luxury limousine will always be a luxury limousine and a classic Arnage will always be coveted just as much, and in some cases more than, any 2008 model limousine.

Britain V Australia

Posted on Saturday 4 October 2008

The Aussies rarely admit when the British do something better, and even when it’s true Australia will immediately set out to better its best. However, with the new season of Top Gear Australia airing Down Under this week, they have been willing to admit that the show has stalled.

When you see the episode for yourself http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=hkdWXL1ekwc&feature=related it is easy to understand their criticism. Top Gear is a success because the writing is good, the segments are interesting and the presenters are engaging and believable, in the UK. In Australia they have trotted out every stereotype ever associated with the country and even made some up and you can’t help but cringe.

I think the Australia writers may find a wave of letters from insulted Australians embarrassed as a whole about the image which was portrayed of them this week. Top Gear is a car show for car enthusiasts and surely the writers would have given Australians a little more credit, and not have been as ignorant as to think that the version of Top Gear Australia they have concocted, would actually appeal to anyone in Australia.

Pretty Pink Limo

Posted on Saturday 4 October 2008

Pretty in Pink. The Pink Ladies. Hiring a pink limousine is probably the most feminine and girly choice you could make; Molly Ringwald and Frenchy would be proud. But you don’t even have to wait for a typically girly event to hire a pink limousine because – not that you need to be told, but – pink goes with everything.

A pink limo ride would go equally well with a trip to the hairdresser as it would with a super organised pre-Christmas shopping trip. You see, while you may automatically think of pink limousines as those huge party bus limousines – and they do come in those models – pink limos are also available as Chryslers, Lincolns and other more typical, smaller limousines.

Of course a super stretch party bus limousine is a stunning pink is also going to be the best part of any girls’ night out, not to mention the perfect accessory for a hen’s night party.

Purple Limo Appeal

Posted on Saturday 4 October 2008

As a teenager, well actually probably when I was a ‘tween’ though no one knew that word when I was between eight and twelve, I had a specific liking for purple. Loved it in my clothes, my hair ribbons, my bedspread and my shoelaces – just loved it!

Unfortunately the problem with growing up is that not everyone, especially your family, notices that you have done it and so they assume you are still into the same colours, movie stars and styles you were when you were twelve. As a result I still get purple clothes and accessories now, even though I’m well into my 20s.

Now I’m not saying I don’t like purple now because I do, I have a gorgeous pair of purple shoes and a stunning necklace with purple stones in it, so my purple tastes are more subtle, rather than dressing head to toe in lilac, I prefer plum accessories. So because of this purple bombardment I am a little reluctant to warm to a purple limousine but I’m sure there are some of you out there who are tormented by a different colour from your childhood and to whom purple does appeal?

Red Limos Are Go

Posted on Saturday 4 October 2008

I’m not really sure why red was chosen as the colour to mean stop in our cultural psyche but it was and is and does usually portray ‘stop’ to people from western cultures. However, when you actually think about it, red really has nothing to do with stopping – fire engines for example are bright red and it is their job not to stop.

Red is also a colour used in decorating to evoke emotions and passions, and so red isn’t really stopping anything in this situation either. And take a look at the red limousines which are available for hire. For a start there are red fire engine limousines, which we have already established are made not to stop. Then there are the candy red stretch party bus limousines which are bright and fun and eye catching and when you see a red limousine arrive on your doorstep to pick you up for a night out, you know that all systems are go for a great night out.

Classy Silver Limo

Posted on Saturday 4 October 2008

Ahhh, silver – the classier cousin of the over the top gold bling which seems to be everywhere, on everyone and everything. Silver has an understated elegance that doesn’t appeal to everyone but silver admirers know that the subtle glint of light reflected from silver earrings is far more stunning than the blinding sensation inflicted on those who happen to be in the vicinity of a gold bling-er.

While the subtle style of silver is one reason to hire a limousine in this hue, silver limousines are also perfect for corporate limousine hire; actually perhaps that is the same reason? Corporate limo hire will often see the use of a silver limousine over that of a black limousine – often associated with funerals – or a white limousine – often associated with weddings.

It is the neutrality of a silver limousine which appeals to business people on their way to meetings and conferences, and it is the elegance and class of a silver limousine which completes their professional and in control image.
