Recently the results of a study were released where people were asked to assign facial expressions to a range of cars. They were to liken the front of the car to an angry expression, a happy expression, a tough expression and so on. Most people were able to choose an expression which they felt fit the car they were looking at, with of course the headlights most often being the eyes and the grille being the mouth.
The thing is, these people had probably never really thought about the fact that they were assigning human characteristics to cars, their own, their friends’ and cars they saw on the street, and probably judging whether they liked the car, and maybe even the people driving it, by the expression the car appeared to have on its ‘face’.
So is this one of the things which makes luxury cars appeal to us more than an ordinary car? Is it because the lines of a luxury car or limousine are so smooth and relaxed that we feel comfortable around these limousines as their facial expressions are friendly? What do you think?
