Bad Publicity vs Good Publicity

Posted on Tuesday 22 July 2008

Did anyone else see or hear about this http://awfulannouncing.blogspot.com/2007/06/wwe-puts-your-leagues-marketing.html, the WWE wrestler, Vince McMahon was part of a publicity stunt (yes, WWF is all for show – gasp!) where his limousine was blown up. Now the wrestling community is trying to rev up debate and accusation about who blew up McMahon, who has been part of these sorts of publicity stunts before.

But is this even good publicity? The people who watch wrestling know it’s not real, but they enjoy it anyway – goodness know why. But when you’re blowing up a limousine, it just seems like a wasteful and excessively destructive stunt to me, and seems more like bad publicity than good publicity.

But then I suppose there is the old adage that there is actually no such thing as bad publicity and any publicity is good publicity, which is suppose is what the wrestling community thrives on anyway. I’d still rather ride in a limo than make the news for blowing one up though.
