Gallons of Fuel Economy...
Limo hire companies and chauffeurs are often concerned with their limo’s fuel economy and rightly so; not only are limos one of the biggest fuel guzzlers on the road, there is more and more concern about the emissions our cars are pumping into the atmosphere, and the limos which make their living on the roads are under the brightest spotlight.
Therefore when you are looking into the next limousine you want to add to your fleet you have to carefully consider its fuel economy and this often comes down to how its rated at how many miles the limo will go to the gallon.
However, with limousines in the UK having been shipped in from all over the world and being manufactured in a number of different countries limo hire companies may think they are doing the right thing in checking the miles per gallon but can easily be mislead.
As many people may not know, just like the Americans spell neighbor, color and meter differently, a UK gallon is different to a US gallon measurement. A UK gallon is 4.54 litres and a US gallon is 3.84 litres so this is something to remember when comparing the fuel efficiency of a UK manufactured limo and a US made one.
Also, the roads in the US are much flatter and straighter than those here in the UK – except of course for San Francisco and we have all seen the trouble limos get into there – as the US has highways and great long stretches of road which our London limos and even our country runs don’t enjoy.
So before you write angry letters and make angry phone calls to your limousine importer for selling you a limousine which uses more fuel than it said it would, do a few calculations first and remember that in the US there are less taxes on their fuel than here so their limos can afford to be a little less fuel efficient.
