The Traditional Prom

While many high school students dream of their prom night throughout their schooling career and start planning almost a year in advance, some schools are trying to put a stop to this excitement.

Two Catholic schools on Long Island are considering low key end of year dances instead of opulent and often over the top proms where more money is spent on the dresses and the limos than most of the students have ever seen!

The Catholic schools’ principals said that they were canceling the proms because they had become expensive shows of materialism which did not fit with the religious beliefs of the schools.

While the students will be understandably disappointed, they are happy to consider alternatives like a trip to a theme park or a dinner dance where the students will be transported by school bus. While these events will provide closure for the school year and a chance to relax and have fun, the limo hire companies will miss prom passengers if the end of the prom becomes widespread.

Limo hire companies say that they enjoy transporting excited young school students for their first big night out; it is a refreshing change from transporting drunken and rowdy adults after their big nights out.

Some limo hire companies also increase their rates for proms as the prom goers only need the limo for a short amount of time, often less than the minimum and therefore, the difference must be made up. Other limo hire companies will offer a four hour booking instead of the requested two hour booking, giving the students extra time to cruise around in the limo without suffering prom price hikes.

While the limo hire companies will not go broke from the lack of prom customers, many will miss the change of pace and the chance to introduce the next generation to the virtues of luxury chauffeur driven limousines.
