Future Of Limos
With over one hundred years of advancements and upgrades of limousines, no one can be sure where the humble limousine will go from here.
We can now see limousines built from almost any model of car there is, from the traditional Cadillac and Mercedes-Benz to Hummer SUVs and VW Beetles. You can also find the truly unique limousines, limousines like the fire engine limousine, the ambulance limousine, the train carriage limousine and even the aeroplane limousine.
So what does the future hold for limousines, surely there is no where else to go, every mode of transportation has been stretched to its limousine limit.
With this in mind at the turn of the century, Coventry University’s Design Show was the platform on which Leamington design student Harminder Singh Paneser exhibited his design showing the way into the future for the limousine industry.
The Coventry University’s Design Show took place at the Coventry City Football Club and was themed ‘unlocked and unforgettable’. The 1999 show was opened by Andrew Summers, Chief Executive of the Design Council and attracted spectators and the media who came to witness the foresight of young UK designers.
Harminder’s chauffeur driven luxury limousine was designed to carry six VIP passengers in high class comfort. The limousine had the facilities to be used as a modern office or meeting venue, as well as being fully equipped to allow the passengers to relax on their journey.
Each passenger would have their own workstation inside the limousine where they can continue to work while they are transported to meetings or functions. The workstations were equipped with fax and email functions to allow passengers to keep in contact with colleagues or clients while out of the office.
Harminder says that he was influenced in his design by all modes of transport, including horse drawn carriages, modern stretch limousines, locomotives, aircraft and ships.
While we don’t know which direction luxury transport will take into the future, we do know that for the moment, limousines have everything in them that we could possibly ever need.
