Limo Crash

Vehicle accidents are often horrific and there are also often fingers pointed in all directions with regards to placing the blame. However, when it is unfortunate enough to have claimed lives, it is official fingers which get pointed and official criminal punishments which are handed out.

This is the case in the limo crash which occurred earlier this year and has recently gone to trial. Martin Heidgen crashed into a wedding limousine and killed the chauffeur and a seven year old girl and injured the rest of the little girl’s family also riding in the limousine. Heidgen was found to have been drinking heavily on the night of the crash.

The recently concluded trial found the jury convict Heidgen or murder however, Heidgen’s lawyer is claiming that the trial in the Long Island court was tainted by juror misconduct. The lawyer is claiming that the jurors discussed the case with their relatives and friends and this is obviously not the correct conduct for any juror.

The lawyer feels the judgement and the sentence were based on facts which were not presented in court and is asking for a new trial.

In a case such as this, it is hard to ignore the press which it has received. Any death is tragic and especially the death of a child. The fact that the child and her chauffeur were in a limousine makes it even more sensational news as limousines are seen to be vehicles of class and sophistication and it is a shock that they face the same risks as the rest of us when on the road.

While the court may have trouble finding jurors who have not seen any of the media surrounding the case if a new trail is set, it is important that the right person is convicted and duly punished for drunk driving.
