Wedding Legality...

Whether you are about to get married for the first time or having a second marriage, there are always legal factors involved. Please read though our wedding legality article which will help you find answers to all your related question.

Planning a second marriage is not only about joining the lives of you and your partner but considering the implications of the lives you're leaving behind and how they affect your new one.

For example, while many couples opt for a civil ceremony for their second wedding, you can still have it in a church or chapel if your wish. If you wish to be married in a Catholic ceremony and you have been married before, you will need an annulment of your previous marriage, not just a legal divorce. Being granted an annulment depends on the reasons for your divorce and it is best to speak with the minister of the church you wish to marry in to find out exactly what you need to do.

Having been married - and divorced - you will already know that it is a tough time, made tougher by the need to divide everything. Therefore when planning your second marriage, you may want to seriously consider a prenuptial agreement. While it is one of the least romantic things you can do in the lead up to your wedding, you and your new partner now understand its vaue.

To avoid other nasty surprises, discuss finances before the wedding. Do either of you have large debts? A bad credit rating? Poor spending habits? These questions will become very important when you and your new partner come to buy a home or car together and they will influence your future lifestyle. Sort out a savings plan by discussing what you both want out of the rest of your life. Do you want to go on overseas holidays once a year or buy a new car every three years? Also make sure you both update your wills and life insurance policies as your income and lifestyle needs will have changed after your second marriage.

For more information on any of the above issues, contact your lawyer or accountant to work out the best way for you and your new partner to enjoy a stress free start to your second marriage.
